Self-Worth

Julia Brown

Self-Worth African-American worth:
we are blessed. To go from rusted chains
tightly wrapped around our wrists
to pretty bracelets and gleaming watches.
To be caged like animals
and being forced to work against
our will and now have freedom.
To endure isolation from segregation and be under
condemnation just because of
the color of our skin. To now having the color
of our skin considered beautiful.
We the people of color – are blessed.
